The package looks for VTeX and sets the switch \ifvtex. In the presence of VTeX, the mode switches \ifvtexdvi, \ifvtexpdf and \ifvtexps are set; \ifvtexgex tells you whether GeX is operating. The author is Heiko Oberdiek.
